'Mr. Satan Goes to Wall Street' - An Occupy Musical

Video streaming by Ustream

In one of OWS’ most creative tactics, the guerrilla street-theater musical comedy “Mr. Satan Goes to Wall Street” debuted in Tampa, Florida at the RNC.

“Mr. Satan Goes to Wall Street” is an incredibly ambitious project, involving a full cast, musicians, and a documentary film crew tracking the production from NYC to Tampa through Charlotte and back to NYC.

In Mr. Satan, Satan is laid off from Hell because humanity has become too adept at doing evil. To get his job back, Satan makes a deal with neoliberal economist Larry Summers to break up Occupy Wall Street. But the love between two young OWS activists might shake the Devil’s allegiance. What would Satan do? Our answer: He’d sing!

There's nothing else like this project: it's comic entertainment with serious political content, and the whole thing is a saavy activist tactic. What better way to revive a movement for social justice than musical theater!

All of the public performances are free - in New York City, in Tampa at the RNC, and in Charlotte at the DNC. The production is being enthusiastically promoted by Occupiers on OWS message boards.

"Save the Rich"

Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci, a comedy duo known as Garfunkel and Oates, sing a "We are the World"-style parody, inspired by Occupy Wall Street, about the current economic crisis in this clip directed by MATT and OZ. "All the jobless people need to learn to be content," they intone faux-earnestly into the mic as visions of old white gentleman float by, "because what we need to do is protect the 1%."

"Occupy Congress - Live Performance In The Belly Of The Beast"

[Caution: Adult language may not be suitable for work.]

Lee Camp performed live in our nation's capitol just last week, on the four-month anniversary of Occupy Wall Street.

Lee is a stand-up comic, and a contributor to The Onion. Lee also provided a catharsis for millions of people in 2008 when he went live on Fox News and called the network a "parade of propaganda and a festival of ignorance." These are just a few of his finer accomplishments.

Immediately following this performance the thousands who were there stormed the steps of the Supreme Court and the White House.
