Gasland

"The largest domestic natural gas drilling boom in history has swept across the United States. The Halliburton-developed drilling technology of "fracking" or hydraulic fracturing has unlocked a "Saudia Arabia of natural gas" just beneath us. But is fracking safe? When filmmaker Josh Fox is asked to lease his land for drilling, he embarks on a cross-country odyssey uncovering a trail of secrets, lies and contamination. A recently drilled nearby Pennsylvania town reports that residents are able to light their drinking water on fire. This is just one of the many absurd and astonishing revelations of a new country called GASLAND. Part verite travelogue, part expose, part mystery, part bluegrass banjo meltdown, part showdown."

Josh Fox, Sean Lennon, Rufus Wainwright Visit Zucotti Park

Josh Fox - director of Gasland - paid a visit to Occupy Wall Street at Zucotti Park earlier in the week, and did a human mic teach-in on hydraulic fracturing or "fracking" joined on stage by his friends Sean Lennon, his girlfriend Charlotte Kemp Muhl, Rufus Wainwright, Dustin Hamman, and others.

Here is a transcript of Josh Fox's speech...

"We're building something different here. I'm very proud to be here. I need to tell you about two things before we play. One, the Delaware River Basin Commission controls the Delaware River Watershed for 15 million people. They will permit 20,000 gas wells in the watershed on November 21st unless we stop them. We need to go down to the Delaware River Basin Commission on November 21st. The D.R.B.C. on November 21st at 8:00 in the morning and make your voice known if you want to stop fracking here and now. You can find out more information about that at http://SaveTheDelawareRiver.com."

"Also, in New York State, right here, Governor Cuomo has lifted the drilling ban which may open the floodgates for 100,000 gas wells in New York State. He needs to know that that can't happen here. Water across New York State, including the New York City watershed, is in jeopardy."

"There is an Environmental Solidarity Working Group right here. Please see these two beautiful people. Pay a visit to them to get more information."

"We have no amplification except for you so you have to sing along."

With Sean Lennon on guitar, his girlfriend Charlotte Kemp Muhl on accordion, Rufus Wainwright, Dustin Hamman on guitar, and others, they lead the occupiers in an acoustic version of Madonna's, "Living in a Material World." Josh Fox played Banjo.

They dedicate the song to Ben Bernanke and Hank Paulson...
