'Wild Old Women' Shut Down Bank of America

They came with walkers. They came in wheelchairs. They even came with portable oxygen tanks in tow. A group of senior citizens who call themselves the "Wild Old Women" in San Francisco shut down their local Bank of America branch office earlier this week when they arrived to demand "the bank lower fees, pay higher taxes, and stop foreclosing on, and evicting, homeowners," in what they called "a run on the bank."

Via KCBS:

As they arrived, Bank of America closed and locked its doors, to the surprise and delight of the elderly protestors, who said that they had no intention of storming the bank.

The women waved signs, but didn’t march or chant, with one woman on supplemental oxygen adding that the group was too old for that.

If you're still sitting on the sidelines of the Occupy movement, what are you waiting for? These feisty little ladies just put you to shame.

They accomplish in a day, the whole "Occupy" movement needed to achieve, in ONE DAY!As my old fried David Byrne once said in song":
This ain't no party, this ain't no disco, this ain't no fucking around
They're reading letters, they're reading postcards, They're tapping phone lines, this ain't no foolin around......

Back in the day 12/83, DB said" The Line Disco sure stuck!
Remember back when they'd buildt bonfires of Donna Summers, we LIKED some Donna Summers. Now the cal it all Dance or House or what have you, the concept's the same. Sometimes it was funny being seen as the flag-bearers of anti-disco music, when so much of what we did in later years was dance music!

Life During Wartime wasn't intended for what's happened in the world, but it sure makes a great soundtrack to present circumstances!!!

They had four real demands.

it proves a point that we are all getting fed up......here in Canada the prime ministers office controls everything the local MP's say. I really hope obama gets back in because if one of the fascists win our PM will have to fight for space under the presidents desk.

history repeats people, it's time to get involved instead of being a bystander, these seniors proved it

So the " Nanna's with Banners" constituency is hitting the streets. Let's see the media call THEM dope smoking unwashed hippies.

Ape-Man's picture

The media will ignore them until they find a way to discredit them in the minds of their viewers. After all, BofA pays their bills. BofA basically owns the for profit corporate 'media' - IE. propaganda NOT news.

don't know how long you've been away from Canada or if you remember. in the 80's brian(lyin brian) mulroney tried to deregulate old age pensions and the seniors gave him shit for it and he backed down

Edwin's picture

I remember Mulroney. Yuck. Makes me wonder about some people that would vote for him.

(I've been away 14 years and missed all the Harper years. I can't stand to look at him.)

As hazardous as it is to be a young, able-bodied demonstrator these days, it'd be just plain lethal to be old and frail when the cops showed up with the billy clubs, tear gas and rubber bullets.

just change banks?

Because that wouldn't stop BofA from foreclosing on properties in their neighborhood and evicting the tenants. Nor would that would force BofA to pay higher taxes.

And, oh yeah, because BofA locked the doors when it saw them coming.

if they stop foreclosing on everyone who fails to make their mortgage payments that will solve everything. Everybody realizes they don't have to pay their mortgages and everybody gets a free house! Hurrah! BoA shareholders and depositors might be a little disappointed that their money has all been loaned out to people who either can't or won't repay it. What could possibly be wrong with that? I can't imagine how a gang of little old ladies could "force" any bank to pay higher taxes but I wish them luck. At least they know what they want.

Hasa Diga Eebowai

. . . not as the creditor. The foreclosures hurt both debtor and creditor but the servicer cleans up on fees. There are also more than a few foreclosures conducted illegitimately as you well know.

Yet you still keep up with the "Why are they protesting?" meme. It's not your fault, I suppose. Evidently American corporate media haven't fed you new talking points yet, and we're well aware how helpless you are without them.

In your opinion, is that smart lending by the bank?

Sometimes you have to speak up.

I guess you still don't 'get' what Occupy is about. (You're the only one left not to understand.)

Oh noes! However will we survive?

Waning support? Got a (legitimate) link? Or is that one of your opinions?

Hey, that's pretty cool. Just wait till next spring/summer. Ought to be quite good. Let's hope they don't go all NDAA on the Occupiers and start disappearing them.

"These feisty little ladies"

Please help me here. Why does every bit of coverage of anything involving old women (old men too) have to condescend?I am 70 years old. Not "feisty," certainly not "little" and in my lifetime the term "little lady" is reserved for girls under seven and women over sixty.

The next step would be to take your children to the demo and point out how charming and adorable those feisty little ladies are! Take pictures.

I know the focus of the article is complementary but try to remember that many of us didn't automatically give up our brains when we turned 65. (Assuming we had some before that landmark.)

Don't think for one minute that cops won't treat seniors the way they treat the young that stand up to the system they are paid to protect. Look what they do to young women. Do you think the holding centers are capable of caring for seniors while they are put through the system? I doubt that they give a crap about what happens to them just like they don't care about the "suicides" at the Buffalo, NY holding center. I have heard about the torture room they have with the drain in the floor for washing the evidence away. A lack of caring for others in this country is what got us into this mess in the first place. Is the court system going to lock them up if they don't pay fines out of their social security? Do you think private prisons want to keep seniors locked up?
