UK Company Turns Electricity Bills into Windmills

This is an adorable short video from ecotricity, the world's first green electricity company, located in the UK, which I suppose explains how it begins - over morning tea.

All those buildings collapsed directly into their own footprints .. It's not possible!
I didn't see a single airplane crash into them!

On a less, err, "conspiratorial" note .. here in Floyd County Virginia installing windmills along the ridges has become a very hot topic of debate. And, in fairness, any building on the ridgelines has always been controversial, but left to the landowner despite strong objections from others.

However, now that commercial enterprises have offered landowners $$$ to allow them to install windmills, neighbors are up in arms (only figuratively, so far) complaining about the noise (are they noisy?), the threats to birds, and the unsightly consequences of installing them.

Recently the County Supervisors passed an ordinance essentially outlawing their construction, by regulating the construction of any structure over a certain height in any area of the county over 2000 feet above sea level (which includes damn near the entire county).

But it wasn't until the final ordinance came out that it came to light exceptions were written in to permit the construction of cell phone towers and high tension transmission lines, bringing coal- and nuclear-generated electricity to the county.

.. good grief ..

When will government of the people, by the politicians, for the corporations perish from this Earth?

Not soon enough!

They aren't that noisy. Cars and trucks are noisier. Turbines become so much white noise.

They keep saying "what happens if a bird gets killed?" Well, more birds and people die from fossil fuels every year than could possibly be killed by windmills, and there can be bird barriers installed on windmills, but not on coal plants.

I think there was a study that showed that the number of birds killed by windmills compared to other causes was incredibly tiny - way beyond insignificant. As for the wingnuts - hypocrisy is a way of life for them.

It's around 1 a day for 100+ turbines in a maritime setting. Not 1 bird per 1 turbine. Bay windows kill more birds than turbines.

Except the token picture for every Republican politician to display them as an "everyman" is to show them with a large shotgun, carrying a dead animal proudly.

Couldn't stuff and mount that bird so good if it got thumped by that thar propeller..."

No, it's more an issue of them spoiling the view for rich 1%ers like the Kennedys.

Having really cute, personified power plants being murdered isn't the way I would have gone to get people to care about clean energy, but I liked the message... XD

Good point. Until you pointed that out, i hadn't realized that i was feeling kinda sorry for the old sods.

It's going to take more than 3 wind turbines to replace a nuclear power plant.

You didn't take the video literally did you?

And if you did; 3 wind turbines put out alot more electricity than a defunct nuclear power plant.

Who says it was defunct? It was all smiling and happy and drinking tea!
