Twitter May Censor Tweets

twit

Twitter announced Thursday that it can now censor tweets only in some countries, whereas before a message would disappear throughout the world if the operators erased it. The flexibility might be welcomed by users in nations with more of a commitment to free speech, but it could also be a sign that Twitter might be giving in to more repressive states, especially as the company expands globally.

Update: There's already a petition circulating asking Twitter to denounce censorship. You can view it online here.

The conflict - "class war" if you please - is global.

It's not really "class war" per se - it's The People vs The Fascist Corporatocracy

And I use the the term "fascist" in its most fundamental sense - the unholy alliance of corporations and government against the people.

When will government of the people, by the politicians, for the corporations perish from this Earth?

Not soon enough!

It's a very short distance between censorship in SOME countries and censorship in ALL countries.

If you have selfish, ignorant citizens, you're gonna get selfish, ignorant leaders.

They have historically censored a tweet in all countries. A tweet in question historically had to be delete which is effectively that, even if it was only against the law in Germany. Now they have a method to censor it only in Germany.

Now matter how much someone hates censorship, Twitter is a global company who wishes to be important in many countries. Not all of these countries are free from government censorship. Twitter however, decided to implement a method of dealing with these countries in less dramatic matter, censor only in one country, and then let the rest of the world know where they are censoring.

Perhpas twitter would be happy to assist Iran with censorship.

Also, where we've been witnessing an all out attack on internet freedom it was nice to know twitter was available if necessary. Now, who knows? But it's o.k..

When will the people stand up to the fascism trends that are surrounding us and closing in on us?

I just wonder which "some" countries those will be? Wouldn't be the ones with revolutions going on, I'm sure.

Do love the dead bird on their petition. Canary in the coal mine, indeed.

I'm wondering if it's intentional or completely ironic that the picture associated with this story is "unavailable."

That's what your kids will be asking. They'll have to hide the Constitution: erase all copies, re-copies and facsimiles in existence.
