Go Home

Scott Olsen, the Iraq War veteran injured at the Occupy Oakland encampment on Oct. 25th has since been released from the hospital and gave his first interview yesterday.

In the interview Scott talks about the challenges he faces after being hit in the head by a projectile at Occupy Oakland, specifically the traumatic brain injury he sustained and the weeks of therapy it took for him to regain his speech. In the video it is evident that he still struggles a bit with speaking. But Olsen states that he is doing much better than he was.

Olsen also addresses the city of Oakland and the Oakland Police Department who are investigating the incident, stating that he is waiting to see what they are going to say about themselves in their own investigations. He has not been interviewed by anyone investigating for the police department, nor has he heard anything at all from the District Attorney's office.

Olsen also conveys at end of the interview that the Occupy Movement was intended to be peaceful and should remain that way, that by working together and being open with one another would solve most of the problems that the movement faces with bureaucracy.

Scott looks great, and it's obvious that he has worked very hard to regain his speech. He also has scars that are hidden underneath a bandana in the video. We wish him all the best, and a speedy, complete recovery.

When will government of the people, by the politicians, for the corporations perish from this Earth?

Not soon enough!

Hearing this obviously intelligent and articulate young man stumble over simple phrases makes my blood boil.

Over a month and no contact from the D.A.? Cops may be paid like the 99.9%, but they seem to enjoy the same immunities as the .01%. Hopefully public pressure can change that in this case (but I'm not holding my breath).

I'd love to include an e-mail link to contact Alameda County District Attorney, Nancy E. O'Malley, but I was unable to find that information at her website.

Watched this brave American last night on Ed's show.

So much for honoring the troops.

I try not to be mad, but some police and law enforcers get to me. I know that those cops were trained to use only the amount of force exacted at them...a fucking disgrace.

And I come from a family of law enforcement officers.

Man , nothing but impressive , I was really moved . All of us should be proud of this young man . How sick is this country that he survives Iraq , comes hope to America the beautiful and is almost killed by the cops for peacefully protesting this corrupt government and the broken system ! The loss of life and the people coming home wounded ( physically / mentally ) makes me both angry and sad , please do not get me wrong , but honestly I have a tough time going along with the program and honoring people who volunteer to go and do this corrupt government's dirty work , this is one Iraq vet I absolutely do honor and I am grateful .

That there has to be a fund to pay for this guy's injuries is beyond belief. Why isn't the city of Oakland paying for the whole thing?! Those evil SOB's!

To Scott Olsen, Marine,
Veteran of the Oakland Occupation

Standing straight, saluting, sometimes smiling -- Spirit shining
Courage creating choice, choosing clarity, certain, calm
Offers one opportunity, obvious over others:
To take the time to teach things thorough
To tell the teachers to teach the truth

O #OccupyOakland, obstinate, outspoken
Learning, living, laughing, loving
Successes surely seem
Effective, even earned,
Now.
