New Video: Disturbing Police Brutality at Occupy Oakland Jan 28th
[Warning: Graphic adult content, some viewers may find this disturbing.]
The Oakland Police Department tried their best to keep certain things from being filmed, like close-ups of them assaulting peaceful protesters, they missed this one.
As kettled activists beg the Oakland Police to please issue a dispersal order so that they can leave, batons come out swinging for no apparent reason and allegedly someone's grandmother is struck. Shocked occupiers tell police that they've hurt a grandmother, and one man is even on his knees begging for a dispersal order. Again, for no apparent reason, an officer grabs a young black man at the front of the crowd by his ears and drags him away.

These instances of police brutality that sent numerous people to the hospital and will leave many people hurting for weeks or disabled for life are precisely the reason I got so pissed at Tina, karoli, Cenk and Hartmann for calling out Occupy Oakland to "denounce the violence."
I saw NO "violence" by the Occupiers. Property damage, yes. And it was politically focussed property damage, not random destruction. But did Cenk, Tina, Hartmann or karoli address ANY of this over the top violence BY THE POLICE? No .. their pearl-clutching hand-wringing concern trolling sickened me as much as the police violence I saw.
And I saw LOTS of Police Violence on video after video. I read Susie Cagle's account in the Guardian, and the accounts of several other reputable journalists who were on the scene. And ALL of their accounts were of police behavior that was way over the top.
Cagle reported two instances where they kettled the crowd, then gave the dispersal order, when the crowd had nowhere to go. And in another instance caught on several videos you can see the confrontation on Oak Street where AFTER firing rubber bullets and lobbing flash bang grenades and smoke bombs directly into the crowd, followed by tear gas .. AFTER all that the police gave an order to disperse .. and an officer at the scene already told one of the camerapeople the police had blocked all intersections.
And on top of that, Oakland Police ROUTINELY give the order to disperse - "if you remain you, you may be arrested .. if you resist you may be injured .." THEN when the crowd does not disperse (kettled or not) and with NO attempt to arrest ANYONE (so no one could have resisted) they begin firing into the crowd, lobbing flash bangs, smoke bombs and tear gas .. completely contradicting their own order.
But the MSM swallowed the entire police version of events: "Occupiers intent was violent. Police were injured."
And several so-called liberal bloggers swallowed it and cried foul.
When will government of the people, by the politicians, for the corporations perish from this Earth?
Not soon enough!
under the bus either. By doing so, they've become the unwitting dupes of the 1%.
That's what I'm seeing as well.
These pigs are not human.

They're very human unfortunately , pigs are above this sort of thing , more civilized .
"The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all."
If you slow down the video at 0:39-41, it seems clear that the police struck at the person in the orange hat (front-right) when that person raised his/her camera up while filming the police.
Definitely outta control cops , this shit has got to stop .

What's the difference when it comes to fascist tendencies? I don't think we are a police state, but they are terrified of Occupy because Adbusters supports anarchy, and some, only some occupiers are anarchists. Most don't even know about Adbusters and their initial influence last year. So the smears work, and Bloomberg and other cowards like Quan crack down on them, Americans who just want the best for this country.
The main objective should be how to stop the Rethugs from rethugging.
Jack-booted thugs carrying out the orders given by the 1%. There will be blowback

but so far - nothing.
Ryan Devereaux (Democracy Now) covers the Occupy Movement in NYC for The Guardian. His recent article is interesting for several reasons. First he discusses Tim Pool's plight. Tim is an intrepid livestreamer to whom we all owe a debt of gratitude for covering events in NYC. But he is also a "marked man" as there are those in the movement who would prefer their faces and activities not be livestreamed. Tim was attacked Sunday night, as many of us have seen in his stream and in Luke Rudkowski's stream.
Later in the artcle Devereaux states this (emphasis mine):
This flies in the face of recent statements made by our own Tina Dupuis & karoli asking whether OWS should denounce the politically targetted destruction of property (they called it "violence") that occurred in the Saturday Jan 28 actions in Oakland. OWS subscribes to "diversity of tactics" - they certainly would not denounce another occupation for acting accordingly.

In Devereaux' article the link to the article about OWS support for "diversity of tactics" is broken - an extraneous right bracket is appended to the link. Here's the article.
What ‘diversity of tactics’ really means for Occupy Wall Street

When will government of the people, by the politicians, for the corporations perish from this Earth?
Not soon enough!
So if 'Occupy' protestors anywhere tolerate any form of "violence" anywhere, (even against property), then the whole movement has become violent. What bullshit. And that's the exact meme the thugs for the right will exploit to beat down EVERYONE who dares take to the street, because 'There's a militant animosity bred by direct action'. To those of us who've physically been involved in OWS, we know that the "militant animosity" is being bred from one source; the police thugs and their commanders, all the way up to Bloomberg and Cuomo.
I hear the word "revolution" thrown around here once in a while, and it makes me wonder if people are naive enough to believe that the revolution will be bloodless. Does anyone honestly believe that the people that really control this country and the world economy are going to lay down arms and embrace the brotherhood of mankind? Really?
I guess when they kill enough of us they'll just realize how mean they're being and quit. And if they don't, we just have to take it, because if we don't, then we're the problem. See, it's perfectly clear.
The black man obviously gave the police the code word so, as an agent provocateur (the ones responsible for all the violence) he could be safely extracted under cover from the mob. It is a damn shame that so few of the protesters have cell phones with cameras. Else we might have actually seen whether a grandmother was struck or that the crowd was kettled and could not simply walk away. I have some advice for those who wallow in Ms Sweet's videos: watch them before you read her descriptions of events. You might then wonder at the discrepancies between what she describes and what you actually, very much edited, get to see.

Thanks for the tip.

where the protesters do clearly attack, repeatedly with their heads, the innocent police batons who are simply exercising their right to free assembly.
I wanna know why always smells like bacon when he comments in OWS threads though... now I am hungry.

of Occupy last night/today while the police were raiding Occupy DC.
it was on the live stream. he was talking to the last video camera in the campground.

(not verbatim but the gist of it:)
I'm surprised that none of the American networks are here to cover this. We have 4 foreign networks here and no US networks.
This reminds me of what I have seen in Russia
The American networks are too busy with their 'cocktail party' circuit and official distractions to be here today.
........
he had no love for the integrity of our networks.
I see a lot of foreign press coverage on breaking news items here that are related to pushback against the government. They too often break it and our media follows. because they have to? or are they just too lazy? or don't they want to cover this stuff in the first place?
Some of the foreign press coverage is probably being used to make us look BAD overseas.
Our media just phones it in and lets their image get ruined in other countries.
But hey, they are still selling commercials with the Kardashians and Donald Trump endorsements

and, what the hell is wrong with this site lately? Why are the comments getting hung up when clicking "save"? Wouldn't save in either IE or Firefox.
I've noticed a few oddities, but nothing too serious. Save can be quite slow and instead of avatars, I often get "so-and-sos picture" text, but no pic, so something is awry. .

If this were another country we would be demanding our government do something about it.
Scary, very scary.

And indeed, our government would be saying how they were for democracy and against state violence.
They wouldn't mean it, of course, but it would probably sound good. Unless they were caught totally flat footed as happened regarding the events in Egypt a year ago.

I am going on 64, born in East Oakland, and for the most part except for a couple of years lived within 30mi of Oakland. It was a shithole as far as I can remember. I often think that it got worse during the 60s, when The city looked to getting new police officers from ads placed in papers in the South.
Goddamn, where is this country and why aren't we intervening and bombing to stop this shit?
THE RETURN OF NAZI STORM TROOPERS!
I guess these cops think they are part of the 1%.
Dillusional!
They don't care, they are losers seeking violent revenge upon anyone they can get away with. Worthless gutless cowards who will kill any the resist.
Their only desire is violent brutality, not law and order, not justice, just egoistic violence, they are 'PIGS'.
We live in a police and prison state.
Wake the fuck up people!
now we should UN-disavow the Oakland OWS? Getting nasty old hippie blood, lymph and broken teeth all over the taxpayer's nice shiny Lexan shields, Kevlar suits, steel flails and lead-packed PR-24s? Running-up overtime hazardous-duty pay for the agents provocateurs; smoking dope, beating bongos and getting laid?
