This song was a big Ronnie Laws hit before there was "Smooth jazz."

Rush finally gets something right. The first two episodes of FOX's The 1/2 Hour News Hour contained zero funny. Despite being panned by critics of all political stripes, FOX has ordered 13 more episodes. Rewarding failure with promotion. Sound familiar?
The controversy over the death of former football star Pat Tillman deepened Friday when a document emerged showing that a top Army general suggested only a week after Tillman was killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan that the White House should be informed of the real circumstances of the shooting.
In a cable, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, chief of the Army's Special Operations Command, suggested to Gen. John Abizaid, chief of U.S. Central Command, that President Bush and other senior officials might mistakenly claim that Tillman had been killed by the enemy on April 22, 2004.
The memo, which was obtained by the Associated Press, does not prove that Abizaid informed Bush or his aides. White House spokesman Blain Rethmeier said Friday that there is no record indicating Bush was advised of McChrystal's concerns.
But to skeptics, the memo suggests the Pentagon was more concerned with protecting the president from embarrassment than with disclosing the difficult truth to Tillman's family -- who were finally informed four weeks later.
The article later states that there are members of both the House and Senate calling for hearings to determine if there was indeed a coverup, including Sen. John McCain. Considering McCain's coziness with Bush over Iraq, it's hard to believe that the hearing would end up being satisfactory to the Tillman family.
Saint McCain is in Iraq this week and proving the "three-months-late" media wrong. Last week he said that the surge is so promising that you can walk the streets of Baghdad safely. He reaffirmed that point at a press conference today, only he forgot to mention that you need 100 US soldiers, three blackhawk helicopters and two apache gunships watching your back. Oops. Must have slipped his mind.

Of course McCain has to blame the media again. Newsweek reminds us just how "safe" Baghdad really is:
[I]t didn't take the insurgents long to send their reply. Less then 30 minutes after McCain wrapped up, a barrage of half a dozen mortars peppered the boundaries of the Green Zone, where the senators held their press conference.
Ed Morrisey's wife seems to have gotten through her kidney transplant well.
Please Mitch, don't you know what day it is? I know you never thought Chris Wallace would punk you like this and neither did I.
WALLACE: Senator McConnell, my point is that back in 1996, you were saying those White House aides should testify in open hearing. These were White House aides of Bill Clinton, in open hearing under oath. Why shouldn’t the same rules apply for the Bush White House and people like Karl Rove?

You probably never thought he would reveal your hypocrisy on FOX NEWS of all places. I too was offended, but then I realized it was April 1st. The joke was on us!...(transcript below the fold)
I'm pretty sure I know what number he's been calling. (h/t Steve Audio )
It was sweet music to my ears when I heard that Orrin Hatch was campaigning to take Alberto Gonzales' job away from him. We at C&L just love the man from Utah and think it's a wonderful idea that he would try to snatch the job away from Gonzo at his time of need.
MR. RUSSERT: Would Senator Hatch be an acceptable replacement to Mr. Gonzales?
SEN. LEAHY: Well, I, I—the rumor on, on the Hill this week was he was actively running for it, but, you know, I’m going to have to leave..

I also totally agree that Alberto is incapable of telling a lie, so I don't understand all the fuss being made about this attorney case either. Pat Leahy is just a big meanie and I wish he would go to the part of New Jersey that Bill Donahue said the Chocolate Jesus should go...
Donohue: But, quite frankly, where should you have this displayed? In New Jersey is where New Yorkers put their garbage. There's a big sanitation dump. That's where you should put it.
Christy says this of our new C&L hero: Sen. Orrin "Never Met A Bushie I Couldn't Defend" I protest Christy Hardin Smith...And you better watch out for the garbage dumps of New Jersey too...Full transcript from MTP here...
Terry Jones of Monty Python fame gives us his take on the circumstances the British soldiers held hostage in Iran are enduring. (h/t Gregory)
Guardian: No hoods. No electric shocks. No beatings. These Iranians clearly are a very uncivilised bunch
I share the outrage expressed in the British press over the treatment of our naval personnel accused by Iran of illegally entering their waters. It is a disgrace. We would never dream of treating captives like this - allowing them to smoke cigarettes, for example, even though it has been proven that smoking kills. And as for compelling poor servicewoman Faye Turney to wear a black headscarf, and then allowing the picture to be posted around the world - have the Iranians no concept of civilised behaviour? For God's sake, what's wrong with putting a bag over her head? That's what we do with the Muslims we capture: we put bags over their heads, so it's hard to breathe. Then it's perfectly acceptable to take photographs of them and circulate them to the press because the captives can't be recognised and humiliated in the way these unfortunate British service people are.
It is also unacceptable that these British captives should be made to talk on television and say things that they may regret later. If the Iranians put duct tape over their mouths, like we do to our captives, they wouldn't be able to talk at all. Of course they'd probably find it even harder to breathe - especially with a bag over their head - but at least they wouldn't be humiliated.
And what's all this about allowing the captives to write letters home saying they are all right? It's time the Iranians fell into line with the rest of the civilised world: they should allow their captives the privacy of solitary confinement. That's one of the many privileges the US grants to its captives in Guantánamo Bay. Read entire article here.
